Gingival recession is the situation where the gum line falls below the enamel of the teeth, exposing the root surfaces.
Gingival recession can be observed in all age groups, including teenagers and adults.
Brushing with incorrect techniques, brushing teeth more than three times a day, aggressive tooth brushing, tooth mobility, high and abnormal frenulums, gum diseases, incorrect fillings, and veneers previously placed can lead to gingival recession.
Teeth should be brushed using medium-hard brushes in circular motions, and the movements should never be too harsh.
Gum recession can cause tooth alignment issues
Exposed root surfaces cause increased sensitivity
Affects the appearance of your smile
When gingival recession occurs, three treatment methods are applied:
Treatment of incurred damage through fillings or veneering
Treatment of tooth sensitivity using special techniques
Replacement of gum tissue through surgical methods
A graft is obtained from the patient's palate and applied to the recession area
Healthy adjacent tissue is shifted towards the recession area
In recent years, there have been many innovations in gingival treatment. In many cases of transplantation operations, artificial grafts are used instead of grafts taken from patients, thus avoiding the occurrence of discomfort after treatment. Gels based on enamel matrix proteins enable a higher success rate of treatments and reduce the discomfort occurring after treatment.
