Dentoria Ohrid
Periodontology and gum care
Tooth health starts at the foundation — the gums and bone. Timely treatment is how we prevent early tooth loss.
Why does periodontology matter?
Periodontology deals with prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the periodontium — the supporting tissues of the teeth. At Dentoria Ohrid we give special attention to the gums, because a healthy foundation means healthy teeth for life — and reliable support for implants.

Tartar is a solid bacterial deposit that is not removed by brushing at home. In our country, this is a complete cleaning and care protocol - not a “regular routine.”
- OptraGate retractor — a comfortably open mouth without jaw strain
- Gentle ultrasonic removal of calculus above and below the gum line
- Premium KaVo Air-Flow — stains from coffee, tea and cigarettes, with enamel and gum protection
- A choice of KaVo powder flavour (orange, mint, forest fruit)
- Detailed flossing between every tooth
- Polishing with protective pastes — smoother surfaces, harder for plaque to stick
- Final antiseptic rinse with two solutions — disinfection and calming of the gum

Cleaning of tartar, before and after
Inflamed and bleeding gums (gingivitis)
Bleeding when brushing, flossing or eating firm food is the first sign. If ignored, inflammation progresses to periodontitis — irreversible bone destruction.
- Professional removal of calculus and plaque (ultrasound + KaVo)
- Local antiseptic therapy and anti-inflammatory gels
- Individual education: brushing technique, interdental aids, pastes and rinses

Healthy gum — pink, without bleeding
Medical reality
Gingivitis is reversible — the gum can become pink and firm again. It returns if plaque is not cleaned properly at home. Together we build long-term habits.Periodontal pocket curettage (root planing)
When bacteria go deeper, periodontal pockets form — hidden spaces that cannot be cleaned with a brush or classic scaling.
- Exclusively by a periodontology specialist — tactile feel in invisible pockets
- Original Hu-Friedy Gracey curettes — the world standard for root cleaning
- Under local anaesthesia — completely painless
- A clean, smooth root surface → the gum reattaches around the tooth

Deep cleaning / root planing
Medical reality
A periodontal pocket is a chronic source of infection. Curettage removes it and stops periodontitis from progressing. After that — regular specialist visits and excellent home hygiene.Bone graft & guided tissue regeneration
Advanced periodontitis destroys bone and supporting tissues. With regenerative surgery we correct the defect and extend the life of natural teeth.
- Led by a periodontology specialist — microsurgery and tissue biology
- Premium botiss bone graft as a scaffold for new natural bone
- A botiss collagen membrane as a barrier while the bone grows
- Painless under local anaesthesia; a biological process of several months

Artificial bone + membrane (botiss)
Medical reality
Regeneration is a biological process of several months — not magic. Success depends on the post-operative instructions and flawless hygiene against reinfection.Gum recession (gingival recession)
An exposed root without enamel — sensitivity, root caries and a risk of tooth loss. The approach is multidisciplinary.
- Diagnosis of the cause: brushing, calculus/plaque, thin biotype, bite, frenulum
- Conservative protection: varnishes, desensitisation, liquid composite if needed
- Microsurgical coverage with free / pedicle grafts
- Lost gum does not grow back on its own — the goal is to stop it and protect the root

ПослеRecession coverage — example
Medical reality
Lost gum does not grow back on its own. Surgical coverage works best when the bone between the teeth is still there and the patient changes their brushing technique.Treatment for bad breath (halitosis)
Chronic bad breath affects confidence. In over 90% of cases the cause is in the mouth — anaerobic bacteria and sulphur compounds.
- In >90% of cases the cause is in the mouth, not the stomach
- Locating sources: periodontal pockets, calculus, caries, tongue grooves
- Clinical elimination: ultrasound, KaVo, Hu-Friedy curettage
- Tongue disinfection + an individual home protocol (zinc / chlorhexidine)
Medical reality
Toothpaste or a shop-bought mouthwash does not treat an active periodontal pocket or calculus under the gum. Lasting freshness needs home hygiene and regular preventive visits.Book a periodontal examination
